Recherche

La plupart de la diversité génétique et métabolique qui existe - et a existé depuis des milliards d'années - est de nature microbienne. Plus impressionnant que l'énorme quantité de diversité microbienne est sa nature dynamique: les microbes sont constamment en train d'évoluer et de s'adapter à leur environnement. Ma programme de recherche suit l'évolution des populations microbiennes en temps réel, en utilisant le séquençage de génomes (de souches individuelles) et de métagénomes (l'ADN de communautés entières) afin de comprendre leur évolution et prédire comment ils s'adaptent à des environnements changeants. Par exemple: (1) les eaux douces qui subissent des proliférations saisonnières de cyanobactéries, (2) l'intestin humain, en se concentrant sur les infections de choléra, (3) les virus hemorragiques (Lassa et Ebola), (4) l'évolution de l'antibiorésistance en Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
