Recherche

En collaboration avec sa collègue, la Prof Caren Helbing (Université de Victoria), la créativité et l'expertise de la Prof Langlois en biologie moléculaire ont été récompensées par un programme de recherche très compétitif de Génome Canada 2020 pour des projets de recherche appliquée à grande échelle (LSARP), d'une valeur de 12 millions de dollars pour les quatre prochaines années où son équipe et elle développeront des outils moléculaires qui permettront d'évaluer l'impact des facteurs de stress environnementaux sur les changements de la biodiversité partout au Canada. Le projet intitulé iTrackDNA (https://itrackdna.ca/) vise à réduire l'incertitude dans la surveillance et les évaluations environnementales à travers les objectifs suivants : 1) promouvoir la standardisation des méthodes d'ADNe ; 2) réduire le temps et les coûts des suivis écologiques ; 3) créer un logiciel pour modéliser la biodiversité régionale ; 4) accroître les compétences de l'utilisateur final concernant l'utilisation des méthodes d'ADNe ; et 5) promouvoir les meilleures pratiques générales d'ADNe en matière de gestion, de politique et de réglementation. En effet, les Prof Langlois et Helbing ont constitué une équipe de recherche de plus de 80+ scientifiques provenant de plus de 40+ institutions différentes, y compris les gouvernements provincial (ministères de l'Environnement, de la lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs du Québec et de la Colombie-Britannique) et fédéral (Environnement et Changement climatique Canada). , Pêches et Océans Canada, Parcs Canada, Ressources naturelles Canada); Peuples autochtones (Eeyou Ischee, Abitibiwinni, Première Nation de Blueberry River, Première Nation de Gitanyow, Confédération des Pieds-Noirs); des cabinets-conseils en environnement (p. ex. Bureau Veritas), l'industrie (ex., Hydro-Québec, DroneXpert), des institutions internationales (ex., USGS) et des organisations non gouvernementales (ex., Living Lakes Canada, Groupe d'éducation et d'écosurveillance de l'eau). De plus, la Prof Langlois utilise des approches comparatives pour étudier des questions de recherche liée à l'écotoxicogénomique et à la perturbation endocrinienne chez les espèces aquatiques. Par exemple, elle s’intéresse à l’étude des interférences hormonales (ex., l'interférences entre les hormones thyroïdiennes, androgènes et stress). Elle étudie également l'importance des stéroïdes 5-réductases chez les espèces aquatiques ainsi que leur perturbation par les contaminants environnementaux (pesticides, produits pharmaceutiques, plastifiants, etc.).
