Recherche

Les travaux dans mon laboratoire ont en commun d'intégrer différents niveaux d'organisation pour répondre à des questions en biologie évolutive. Mes travaux principaux s'orientent autour des aspects évolutifs liés à la polyploïdie chez les cladocères. Nous examinons les effets des duplications chromosomiques sur la physiologie et l'écologie des invertébrés d'eau douce. Grâce au séquençage du génome de la puce d’eau, Daphnia pulex, nous disposons de nouveaux outils pour caractériser les génomes. Ainsi, nous nous intéressons aux gènes qui contrôlent la taille corporelle chez les daphnies. Ce caractère est un des plus importants en biologie évolutive puisqu’il est lié à la valeur reproductive (fitness) et curieusement nous en connaissons très peu sur les gènes qui le contrôlent. Je m'intéresse également aux facteurs liés à l'origine et au maintien de l'asexualité. Pourquoi les organismes asexués affichent souvent une distribution géographique différente de leurs ancêtres sexués ? Des centaines de clones de daphnies se retrouvent dans les environnements vierges de l'arctique et servent à tester différentes hypothèse évolutives (niche congelée, génotype tout-usage). Les approches utilisées dans mon laboratoire pour répondre à ces questions comprennent une combinaison de techniques moléculaires (allozymes, microsatellites, SSCP, séquençage), des mesures métaboliques ainsi que des expériences.
