Projet

Résilience des écosystèmes à herbiers dans l'estuaire du Saint Laurent
Les herbiers de phanérogames sont constitués des seules plantes à fleurs adaptées à la vie marine en immersion. Ils jouent un rôle fondamentale dans le fonctionnement des écosystèmes benthiques côtier en atténuant la vitesse des courant et l’intensité des vagues, séquestrant une quantité considérable de carbone, servant de zone refuge pour de nombreuses espèces qui ne pourraient pas vivre sans. Dans l’estuaire du Saint Laurent la glace de rive a une forte influence sur la dynamique des herbiers. En effet, elle détruit complètement le système foliaire durant la saison hivernale et peut même causer l’arrachement d’herbier et ainsi former des marelles persistantes dans le temps. Ce processus augmente l'hétérogénéité spatiale des herbiers à l'échelle du paysage. L'objectif général de ce projet est d'évaluer la résilience des écosystèmes à herbier en tenant compte de la présence de ces marelles. Il s’agit plus particulièrement de déterminer l'impact de la formation de marelle sur les communautés de macrofaunes benthiques et d'évaluer la résilience des écosystème à herbiers face à l'eutrophisation
