  • Les paysages tropicaux sont extrêmement dynamiques dans le temps et l’espace et sous forte influence des populations rurales qui pratiquent l’agriculture sur brûlis et l’extraction de ressources forestières pour assurer leur subsistance. La péninsule du Yucatán, en particulier la région de Calakmul, est caractérisée de plus par une carence de réseau hydrologique superficiel, où l’eau devient un facteur limitant critique durant la longue saison sèche. Les espèces fauniques doivent donc composer avec les variations saisonnières de la disponibilité de nombreuses ressources, ainsi qu’avec des couvertures en perpétuel changement, soit dû à des processus naturels comme les ouragans ou d’origine anthropogénique comme la conversion pour l’agriculture. Des mécanismes importants pour le maintien des populations comme la dispersion sont dès lors menacés, de même que peut l’être l’accès à certaines ressources clé telles que les points d’eau, les sites d’alimentation ou de nidification, entre autres. La compréhension des relations que gardent les espèces animales avec les caractéristiques des paysages qui les abritent est donc nécessaire pour prédire leur vulnérabilité aux changements au sein de ces paysages. Ma recherche se situe à l’intersection des recherches écologiques et sociales (historiques, culturelles, politiques) qui motivent l’étude des écosystèmes changeants, tout en utilisant l’écologie du paysage comme cadre théorique.
