Workshop (December 14)
Monitoring and forecasting changes in biodiversity: building the Quebec community and its capacity to contribute to biodiversity monitoring
This workshop will also be an opportunity to present the achievements and perspectives for GEO BON– The Group on Earth Observations – Biodiversity Observation Network. GEO BON is a global research network that brings together a community of practice dedicated to improving biodiversity monitoring. The GEO BON secretariat is since this year hosted by the Québec Centre for Biodiversity Science (QCBS) based at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. The GEO BON network has made great progress over the past decade, moving from the initial concept to establishing a global network for improving biodiversity observations to inform governments and policy makers.
This is a unique opportunity to work together to place the Quebec monitoring network at the forefront and at the heart of this international network.

QCBS Art and essay Exhibition
All members, professors, research professionals and students, will be invited to present their work.
What you need to know
- Your work doesn’t need to be related to your research/work. Any artist that works in the field of science will see their art impacted by their scientific background, in some way.
- No need for any artistic training!
- By submitting your piece of art, you agree that the QCBS may use it for promotion on the web.
To submit a piece of art
For this virtual version, we ask you to send us your work in png format (for more static pieces), in video or audio recording. The links will be deposited on the platform and will be accessible throughout the symposium
- Submit your work at esther.carle-pruneau@usherbrooke.ca
- Send to the same address a short text describing your artistic approach and how it is influenced by your background in a field of science, in the language you prefer.
To submit an Essay
We strongly encourage the participation of students that self-identify as belonging to a visible minority. If you self-identify as such, you can highlight it during your submission.
There will be a specific prize dedicated to the best essays from students of under-represented groups, including BIPOC students.
These essays will be made available and shared through the EDI webpage of the Beagle https://lebeagle.qcbs.ca/ after the conference, to increase the visibility and the sharing of the diversity of experience and models in sciences related to Biodiversity.
Submit your work at mtissier@ubishops.ca
