Microbiome Biomarkers to Guide and Enhance GDNF-Based Therapy for Hirschsprung Disease
I am developing microbiome biomarkers to improve care for Hirschsprung disease (HSCR). Using mouse models, I track how the gut microbiome changes in response to GDNF-based therapy. My goals are twofold: (1) identify species-level microbial signatures that predict who will respond to GDNF versus who will not; so we can avoid costly, ineffective treatment and prioritize surgery earlier when needed; and (2) discover sex-shared diagnostic biomarkers that can flag HSCR risk before symptoms appear.
