Quantifying acoustic biodiversity to predict the impacts of climate changeClimate change is altering the way ecosystems function, leading to a decline in biodiversity. Understanding the mechanisms affecting ecosystems is therefore fundamental to implementing measures to limit this alteration. From a conservation perspective, it is therefore important to document changes in the state of biodiversity to inform decision-making. The use of large-scale acoustic inventories, such as that set up as part of the Quebec Biodiversity Monitoring Network, makes it possible to measure temporal and spatial changes in the activity of certain species. My PhD project is part of this approach to assessing the effects of climate change on biodiversity. Using acoustic data, I will study the extent to which species are able to adapt their spatial distribution and phenology across Quebec in response to environmental change.
