Project

Study of the microbiota of Bonsais and Penjings of the Montreal Botanical Garden, and detection of phytopathogens.
The bonsai and penjings of the Jardin Botanique de Montréal have recently been affected by unidentified pathogenic organisms and have shown foliar symptoms. Phytopathologies represent a growing threat to biodiversity and humanity, considering globalization and climate change, that promote the establishment and dispersion of pathogenic organisms. This study aims to determine the potential pathogenic strains responsible for these symptoms, by characterizing the fungal microbiota of 3 bonsai species: Ulmus parvifolia, Pinus thunbergii and Acer palmatum.
