Project

Modeling environmental determinants of hive health
The surrounding environment is a major factor of hive health. For several years now, beekeepers have been observing high mortality rates in their honeybee (Apis mellifera) colonies. My master's project involves modeling the surrounding landscape around beehives in Quebec using massive geospatial datasets, in partnership with Montreal-based company Nectar. Nectar's colony survival reports are combined with satellite remote sensing data to predict the survival of beehives in various environments, using statistical and machine-learning models.
