Jaye Ellis étudie la réponse du droit au risqué écologique, ciblant les contributions des sciences naturelles au gouvernance et les processus de traduction qui sont nécessaires pour incorporer les connaissances scientifique dans la loi et la politique. Elle examine les initiatives étatiques et non-étatiques aux niveaux international, transnational, et national, en apportant une attention particulière aux méthodes de gouvernance tels les objectifs et indicateurs, standards, et programmes de certification. Sa recherche actuelle examine les programmes de certification montés par les Marine et Forest Stewardship Councils, contemplant les intersections parmi le droit, la politique, l’économie, et la science au sein de ces programmes.
