Recherche

Ma recherche s’intéresse à l’évolution des traits qui sont exprimés par les organismes durant les interactions biologiques. Les organismes interagissent constamment les uns avec les autres, comme proies et prédateurs, hôtes et parasites, ou comme partenaires sociaux et sexuels. Durant ces interactions, ils expriment des comportements spectaculaires comme de l’agressivité, des comportements de cours, ou des comportements de fuite. Prédire l’évolution de ces comportements est un défi parce que les gènes associés avec ces traits sont présents à la fois dans l’organisme qui exprime le comportement et dans les organismes avec lesquels il interagit. Prédire l’évolution de ces comportements est aussi difficile parce que ces traits sont à la fois des agents de sélection et la cible de cette sélection. Pour comprendre comment ces comportements évoluent, je construis des modèles théoriques, j’étudie des populations animales en liberté, et je fais des expériences en laboratoire.
