Workshop overview

As one of the most widely used programming languages in data science, Python is an essential tool for anyone working with data today. This two-part Python workshop will start from the very basics and build up to performing spatial analyses using Python’s most powerful libraries.

In Part 1, we’ll cover core programming concepts, working with the VS Code editor, and essential data libraries. Part 2 builds on this foundation, introducing geospatial analysis and using Jupyter Notebooks to promote reproducible workflows.

Themes covered in this workshop will include:

  1. Python programming
  2. Coding in VS Code
  3. Modules in Python
  4. Working in Jupyter Notebooks
  5. Data analysis and visualization
  6. Spatial analyses

Audience

This workshop is FREE for QCBS members, both students and researchers. Non-QCBS members will be charged 50$+tx (students and NGOs) or 100$+tx (others) to attend the workshop, payable on line by credit card prior to the workshop at this link. Registration of non-QCBS members might be restricted depending on the number of registrants. Participants are not expected to have any prior knowledge of Python or computer programming.

Information

Participants are expected to bring their own laptops to the workshop and to install Python and VS Code on their computers. Detailed instructions on how to do this will be given to the participants one week prior to the workshop.
