More Than a Pit Stop: The Role of Private Residential Yards in Supporting Urban Bird Diversity Across Seasons and Scales
Although private residential yards are increasingly recognized as important urban habitat for birds, most research focusses on the breeding season and neglects to empirically measure ecological scale of effect, potentially overlooking migrating birds and scale-dependent habitat relationships in management plans. This project compares avian use of private residential yards during migration and breeding in Montreal, assessing how the scale of effect and key habitat predictors of species richness differ between seasons. Results aim to inform the seasonal and spatial management of urban residential green spaces.
