Project

Plant and mycorrhizal biodiversity in agroforestry hedgerows
Agroforestry features such as windbreaks and riparian strips provide multiple ecological services and contribute to maintaining biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. Their diverse plant communities can promote the conservation of species groups that are sensitive to intensive agricultural practices, such as mycorrhizal fungi. However, the lack of knowledge about the biodiversity of agroforestry hedgerows specific to the biophysical context of Quebec still limits the adoption of this practice by agricultural producers. A better characterization of the biodiversity of agroforestry hedgerows is therefore essential to achieving the goal of doubling the amount of agricultural land managed in a way that is favorable to biodiversity by 2030, as set out in the Sustainable Agriculture Plan.
