Project

Evaluating Wildlife Habituation to Shelf-Equipped Water Culverts as Road Crossings in Southern Quebec
The purpose of this research is to determine if there is a change in culvert use and habituation to the culvert after shelves were installed. Project activities include the safe storage of the photos taken from the SD cards of the cameras in each of the 4 crossing structures (using camera rotation), identifying the animal species seen in the photos, identifying full crossings and aversions or explorations, data entry using Excel tables, preparing/updating graphs that visualize the results, identifying the species that do not use the structures and data analysis (using simple statistical tests). The following questions will be studied: What species are using the crossing structures and how often (according to the photos taken by the cameras)? What species explore the entrance but then turn around? Do the results differ between the crossing structures (i.e., those with and without shelves)?
