Project

Genetics and Genomics for the Conservation of Coral Reef Fishes
I use molecular tools, including environmental DNA and whole-genome sequencing, to compare genetic diversity, genetic load, and adaptation potential in populations of tropical reef fishes. I conduct fieldwork in Panama at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and in Hong Kong at the University of Hong Kong. I use environmental DNA metabarcoding as a non-invasive method for long-term monitoring of reef taxonomic and functional diversity. Whole-genome sequencing data provides more insight into a population’s evolution, demographic history, and risk of extinction.
