Development of an Integrated Multivariable Framework for Biodiversity Assessment: A Paradigm Unifying Biodiversity Multi-Level IndicatorsCurrently, many biodiversity indicators are being developed to quantify changes in specific aspects of biodiversity (e.g., genetic diversity, species interactions, ecosystem structure). However, by focusing on individual aspects (e.g., species number, ecosystem complexity), these indicators limit the holistic understanding for the accurate detection and attribution of biodiversity changes. A framework that systematically integrates biodiversity levels, from genes to ecosystems, would provide decision-makers with a more informed basis for action. Scientifically, it would offer deeper insights into the interrelationships between biodiversity levels and the dynamics driving biodiversity change. The main goal of this research is to develop a unified multivariable framework that links and quantifies relationships across biodiversity levels. This framework will be applicable across all biodiversity components, offering valuable insights into the processes shaping biodiversity patterns and informing better conservation decisions. By integrating these indicators, the framework introduces an innovative method to enhance biodiversity monitoring tools. It represents the next generation of biodiversity indicators, linking various aspects of biodiversity to achieve true integration and unification. In this project, I will develop the theoretical and statistical methodology for this framework and implement it in open-source software for broad accessibility. Additionally, I will incorporate the framework into BON in a Box, a GEO BON platform that provides user-friendly access to advanced biodiversity modeling tools, helping nations worldwide make better decisions for biodiversity management.
