Analysis of the influence strategy of private business groups in the negotiations of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity FrameworkGlobal context: As part of the 15th Conference of the Parties (CoP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), a new framework, the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), will be negotiated between world governments to guide actions for the preservation and protection of biological diversity up to 2030. According to the current version, which has not yet been adopted by the parties, the framework will contain 21 targets which must be achieved by the signatory countries. Specific context: Because meeting some of the targets of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework will require governments to adopt laws and regulations, this framework will have a direct and indirect influence on business if adopted. This is the case for target 15, which aims to assess and disclose the impacts and dependencies of businesses on biodiversity, and target 18, which aims to reduce subsidies deemed to be harmful for the protection of nature. . It is for this reason that some business associations have developed strategies to influence negotiations on the new framework. Although several business associations are interested in COP15, we will mainly focus on multi-sector business associations that have been founded by private companies and international organizations, such as Business for Nature and the World Business Council For Sustainable Development. As part of this essay, the influence strategies of its groups will be documented.
