Assessing land-use legacy effects on soil biodiversity decomposition in urban parks
Cities are complex socio-ecological landscapes that have developed through multiple land-use transitions through time. These land-uses might have left behind persistent effects in soils that which can carry over until today due to the slow ecological functioning of belowground processes, such as decomposition. Cities are therefore perfectly situated to be ideal study systems for assessing land-use legacies, a component of historical ecology that has been poorly studied in urban environments.
