Determining the role of variation in urban adaptation and evolution
My thesis aims to explore how urbanization shapes patterns of phenotypic variation along urban gradients. Urban and nonurban populations have been shown to differ in many phenotypic traits, and I hope to disentangle the potential mechanisms (i.e., microevolution, plasticity, non-random dispersal) that underlie these divergences as a part of my thesis. To address my main objectives, I will use both quantitative and experimental approaches as a part of a long-term monitoring project on great tits in and around the city of Montpellier, France.
