Project

Connectivity by design: protecting biodiversity in fragmented habitats
An estimated 1 million plant and animal species face extinction globally due to human impacts on habitat and climate. One solution is to restore connectivity in fragmented habitats. I am conducting microcosm experiments on soil-inhabiting microarthropods to test the hypothesis that extinctions can be prevented by connecting low-quality and high-quality habitat fragments via corridors. My research will inform conservation strategies to protect biodiversity over the coming century.
