Research

I am a community ecologist interested in the causes and consequences of human-induced biodiversity change in lakes and rivers. I approach this problem from an 'eco-evolutionary' perspective, recognizing that contemporary adaptation can influence the response of aquatic communities to anthropogenic stressors. I employ two main approaches: (i) field experiments, to assess the eco-evolutionary impacts of land use on aquatic organisms (fish, benthic macroinvertebrates, plankton) and their influence on ecosystem processes; (ii) statistical modelling & data synthesis projects, to document patterns at larger spatial and temporal scales (e.g. by collating monitoring data), and/or to extend ideas to other taxa, ecosystems, or anthropogenic stressors.
