Keynote Speaker

Jeremy Kerr

Dr. Jeremy Kerr opened the 2012 QCBS Symposium, by a talk entitled “Missing the targets: global change challenges for conservation in Canada”.  Dr. Kerr is an associate professor in the Department of Biology, at University of Ottawa. Dr. Kerr has not only won numerous prestigious scientific prizes, and became a leader in ecoinformatics; he is also convinced that powerful scientific evidence can rapidly improve practical problems. To this end, he has worked to improve endangered species legislation in Ontario and, through the International Boreal Science Panel, to gain commitments from governments across Canada to establish vast new protected areas in the boreal wilderness.
