A unified framework for community ecology: Phylogeny, geography, and the assembly of ecological communities
The field of community ecology has had a turbulent history, and the lack of strong quantitative frameworks has provided a barrier to rigorous hypotheses testing. Over the past decade there have been large analytical advances in spatial ecology and community phylogenetics, but they have remained largely separate from each other. As part of a larger initiative, this project aims to provide a bridge between these two disciplines, and move towards developing a unified model for community ecology that merges spatial ecology, metacommunity dynamics and community phylogenetics.
